This is the Ranch House in
1997. It was vacant for 10 years before we bought it.
We saved the house. We put in all new wiring and plumbing, uncovered the
original wood floors and
wains-coating on the walls. The small front part of the house is log,
between 100 and 200 years old.
The logs in the walls and beams are hand-hewn.
We had to take off the old
porch and put on a new one using sawmill lumber
and cedar posts. We also had to jack up the back of the house and add a
new beam.
The house has been added on to many times over the years. The old back
porch
became the kitchen many years ago, and 2 more large rooms were added on
the very back. Now it is 6 large rooms with a bathroom in the center.
We had to tear down both chimneys. The roof is still metal.
There is a small room above the original log home, with hand-hewn beams
in between floors.
Our floors are either original wood or plywood, all painted brown. There
is a
very good well, and also a hand dug well down in the field.
The original farm was 183 acres, now divided up. We have 12 acres of
pasture
up on top of this hill. It is very quiet here, lots of deer and turkey
still.
We are very thankful to the Lord for helping us find this place.
It is exactly what we were praying for. We have come a long way
since these early photos.
